MFRMLS Gets Greener Just in Time for Earth Day

MFRMLS has announced the addition of new green fields to their MLS data. Now, not only will their over 58,000 customers be able to access verified green information, but brokers and agents can search for properties by the green verification type or energy-efficiency rating just as easily as they can search by price, or location.

The MLS’s green initiative reinforces their commitment to offering their customers standardized and reliable data that is marketable. It’s a move that aligns with the company’s support of standardizing MLS data industry-wide alongside other real estate industry leaders, like the National Association of Realtors® (NAR), Real Estate Standards Organization (RESO), and the Council of Multiple Listing Services (CMLS).

The Value of Green Speaks Volumes

There’s no denying the value of green, energy efficient homes in the real estate market. In fact, NAR’s 2018 Sustainability Report found that :

  • 71% of brokers and agents believed energy efficiency promotion in listings was “very or somewhat valuable.”
  • 61% of brokers and agents said that home buyers/sellers were “at least somewhat interested in green sustainability.”
  • 80% of respondents said properties with solar panels were available in their market, and many said that properties with solar panels increased the perceived property value.
  • 40% of brokers and agents said that their MLS has green data fields, and that they used the green fields to promote green features and energy information.

A Green Win All Around

Extensive studies on the topic of green features in real estate, suggest that the benefits, to real estate professionals and home buyers/sellers alike, are outstanding.

One such report from CMLS Green Data Best Practices Guide For The MLS, examines recent valuation reports that indicate homes with green features typically sell for 2-5 percent more, and faster, than homes without green features. “Recent valuation reports indicate that homes with green features typically sell faster and for 2-5 percent more than comparable homes without such features.

With this in mind, Stellar MLS pursued adding more green data fields to Matrix for their customers. “We are always looking for new opportunities for our customers to promote their listings and grow their businesses and stay at the center of each transaction. Better data means better business,” said Melissa King, VP of MLS Services for MFRMLS.
